Carly Simon, the singer-songwriter of the classic 1972 hit song “You’re So Vain,” has been repurposed into a political ad attacking Donald Trump.
This is the first time Simon has allowed the song to be used in a political ad – and she even changed one verse to make it more fitting for Trump. Instead of signing, “your scarf, it was apricot,” she signs, “your face, it was apricot.”
The two-and-a-half-minute video is filled with a whole slew of Donald Trump gaffes and other funny images of Trump – like him proudly holding up a picture of himself or riding on the back of a horse with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Fred Goldring, who produced the pro-Barack Obama political ad “Yes We Can” from 2008, reached out to Simon for the idea and “she loved it immediately,” Goldring explained.
Goldring also teamed up with Patriotic Artists and Creatives, a pro-Hillary Clinton super PAC, to launch this ad. And according to Goldring, there will be more political ads like this coming out of the woodwork.
