In Georgia's Republican gubernatorial primary runoff campaign, Secretary of State Brian Kemp has been hammering Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle on ethics, after secretly recorded audio revealed Cagle admitted he backed legislation he considered bad policy to prevent a special interest group from donating to an opponent.
The Cagle-aligned group Changing Georgia's Future released an ad shot to look like a 1970s-era porno film.
"No Massaging the Truth, starring Brian Kemp" reads the screen, over a funk music riff. A man portraying Kemp takes off a bathrobe and lies face-down on a massage table. As he gets a massage, the narrator prosecutes the case against him: "Kemp was entrusted to protect Georgians, but failed to take action on a Georgia business after a series of sexual assault complaints.
The masseur gives "Kemp" a wad of cash, and "Kemp" says in a thick draw, "you scratch my back, and I'll scratch yours." The final frame shows Kemp putting the cash in his bathrobe pocket. Clearly, Cagle's allies want to muddy the waters, so both candidates are saddled with ethical questions and not just one.
