To open the 51st Annual Country Music Association Awards, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood brought the house down with a twist on Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats" that playfully jabbed Donald Trump in front of a decidedly pro-Trump audience.
In the opening monologue, Underwood warned Paisley not to play any "silly little songs" about politics because the award organizers declared this year's show a "politics-free zone."
But in the irrepressible Paisley, after a few aborted attempts at songs like "Way Down Yonder On The Scaramucci" and "Stand By Your Manafort," Paisley unleashes: "Before He Tweets":
Right now, he's probably in his PJs, watching cable news, reaching for his cell phone
Right now, he's probably asking Siri, how in the hell do you spell Pocahontas?
In the middle of night, from the privacy
of a gold-played White House toilet seat
he writes, Little Bob Corker, NFL and covfefe
And it's fun to watch it, that's for sure
'til little Rocket Man starts a nuclear war
and maybe next time he'll think before he tweets
And Paisley's lyrics prove too much for Underwood to resist. You'll need to hear her belt out "covfefe."
