Hillary Clinton just released her new book, titled “What Happened” which details her thoughts on how she lost the 2016 presidential election to Donald Trump. As it turns out, she blames Senator Bernie Sanders for a lot of it.
Clinton will be on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert next week, but in the meantime, Sanders also released a new book and sat down with Stephen Colbert to talk about it. Instead, Sanders responded to Clinton’s attacks in the book.
The text reads:
Bernie: I think America should get a pony.
Hillary: How will you pay for the pony? Where will the pony come from? How will you get Congress to agree to the pony?
Bernie: Hillary thinks America doesn’t deserve a pony.
Hillary: Actually, I love ponies.
Bernie Supporters: She changed her position on ponies! #WhichHillary #WitchHillary
After Colbert brings up the pony analogy, Sanders threw a little shade of his own:
“Look, Secretary Clinton ran against the most unpopular candidate in the history of this country and she lost. And she was upset about it – and I understand that,” Sanders said. “But our job now is really not to go backwards, it is to go forward. It is to create the nation that we know we can become. We have enormous problems facing us and I think it’s a little bit silly to keep talking about 2016. “
Colbert presses him again, and asks him if maybe his promises as a candidate were too pie-in-the-sky for where America is in this political moment.
“The real point is, we broke through a box” – as opposed to a glass ceiling of course – “which said you can’t talk about this, you can’t talk about income inequality, you can’t talk about health care for all, you can’t talk about taking on the billionaire class,” Sanders said.
“We did it. We ended up with 13 million votes. I think we helped transform politics in America.”
Sure enough, but Clinton’s argument was persuasive enough for Democratic primary voters. After all, we aren’t talking about President Sanders. But then again, we aren’t talking about President Clinton either.

Sanders Promised Ponies – Clinton Said Ponies Were Too Expensive
One of Clinton’s key attacks on Sanders in her new book involves “ponies” – and by “ponies,” Clinton means pie-in-the-sky policies from Sanders (Medicare for all, tuition free college, etc.)The text reads:
