Bernie Sanders released a new ad in California today, which highlights his pro-LGBT stance, going back decades.
“Be the Change” is part of a $1.5 million ad buy the Vermont Senator is making in California, just two weeks ahead of the state’s primary on June 7.
Sanders’ Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton maintains an insurmountable lead in delegates, though Sanders has been persistent that he refuses to cede California before the state gets a chance to cast their primary ballots.
The ad features a clip of Sanders in 1995 shouting down Republican California Rep. Duke Cunningham on the floor of the House for making a slur in reference to LGBT members of the U.S. military.
Here’s the full 1995 exchange:
The grainy, two-decade old clip is intended to remind Californians that Sanders has been on the side of LGBT rights for a very long time… perhaps longer than his opponents.
