Mae Torlakson, Democrat and wife of California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson, is running for California’s State Assembly District 14.
In her first political ad, “My Immigrant Story,” Torlakson explains how she achieved her California Dream and how she wants to help other Californians find theirs.
“My story is not the one you typically see in the movies,” Torlakson explains. “I found my California Dream but not without struggles a long the way.”
Torlakson explains the challenges she had to overcome as an immigrant and single mother – at one point losing her home, filing bankruptcy and dealing with credit card debt, all while supporting her two kids.
“I never doubted America,” Torlakson says assuringly, “and I never doubted my chances to find my California dream.”
She has raised over $175,000, received the Democratic Party’s endorsement and is leading in the polls – 5 points ahead of the Republican candidate Debora Allen and 21 points ahead of the next Democrat.
