This is California weird. Former California Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi was arrested a few years back for shoplifting. As one wag said, her “lust for leather leggings” got the better of the Bay Area Democrat and she was charged with felony grand theft after police found a pair of pricey trousers stuffed into her shopping bag.
She eventually pled no contest to a reduced misdemeanor charge – but not before denying the accusations and then later blaming the oversight on a benign brain tumor.
But wait – it gets weirder. She is now a candidate for State Senate (a big deal in California, where State Senators represent more constituents than members of Congress). She recently visited the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle, which has developed the much-appreciated habit of posting video recordings of their ed board meetings online.
You would have suspected she was going to be ready for this one. You would have been wrong.
This is a train wreck. Some political ads just make themselves. Bay Area friends, stand by to see clips from this video again soon.
