“I don’t recall” may have been the most repeated phrase on Capitol Hill yesterday, as U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions testified in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee. But California Senator Kamala Harris was having none of it.
Harris and former Alabama Senator Sessions have something in common: Harris was also an Attorney General, serving in California from 2011 to 2017 before being sworn into the Senate.
But apparently the last few months in D.C. have done little to blunt Harris’s sharp prosecution style – which she turned on Sessions yesterday with little remorse.
As Sessions did his best to dodge Harris’s questions, the junior California Senator kept her barrage on full blast for the entire 6-minute episode.
Sessions was so jarred by her onslaught that he even blurted out “I’m not able to be rushed this fast, it makes me nervous.”
After watching the brutal takedown of Sessions long enough, Arizona Sen. Jon McCain came to his colleague’s rescue and interrupted Harris – reminding many of the James Comey hearing where her male colleagues constantly interrupted her – before the committee chair Richard Burr threw in the towel.
There’s plenty of due speculation that Harris is being eyed by Democrats for higher office – if that’s the case then you can bet this exchange will make it into a political ad at some point.
