The 2016 race for the White House has been full of twists and turns – with some voters feeling uneasy with the two remaining candidates. Capitalizing on the divisiveness is the popular cult hit TV show, Game of Thrones.
The show has launched a viral marketing campaign to host their own 2016 election and have created these parody political ads to sway voters:
“Approved by Recruiters of the Night’s Watch”
Donald Trump isn’t the only candidate with an affinity for large walls and a great fear of those who dwell beyond it. Game of Thrones has drafted Jon Snow, “King of the North” with 9-year-old Lady Mormont as his running mate.
In Snow’s “Serve the People” ad, narration plays over dark and dreary battle scenes as Snow says, “We’re not friends. We’ve never been friends.” The clip concludes as he says, “This isn’t about friendship. It’s about survival,” as the words “Snow – Mormont 2016” fill the screen. This candidate doesn’t seem to care about political correctness or pleasing old allies. #GOTSnow
“Approved by Westerosis for the Ethical Treatment of Dragons”
In exile, third party candidate Daenerys Targaryen hopes to return and fight the system of corruption and partisan bickering. In her ad, “Break the Wheel,” the great Queen declares, “I do not bring you commands, I bring you a choice.”
The “Mother of Dragons” wants to break chains and ceilings for everyone as she looks to end slavery and provide greater opportunities for all. With running mate Tyrion Lannister bringing years of experience and knowledge, this campaign is sure to ignite an anti-establishment movement. #GOTDany
“Approved by the Lannister Family Coffers.”
The third contender for #GOT2016 is the establishment candidate who hopes to win the race based on rules and force. In “Power is Power,” the polarizing Cersi Lannister is characterized as “Stately, discreet, decisive, revered, and obeyed.”
The Lioness believes she deserves the throne and has the money to self-fund her campaign. Whatever controversy her opponents try and throw her way, she overcomes through poised calculation and manipulation. “Show them what Lanisters are – what we do to our enemies,” says Cersi as her ad plays ominous music. #GOTCersi
“Approved by the Discover the Fingers Tourism Board”
The last contestant in the race is Petyr Baelish – the opportunity candidate. Instead of creating opportunities for everyone, this candidate capitalizes on opportunities for his own advancement. “Chaos is a ladder,” he claims as his ad shows his accomplishments and manipulations.
If the real 2016 presidential election is any indication, chaos might be the secret weapon needed to win #GOT2016. Looks like Donald Trump isn’t the only candidate to getting bullied for the size of his fingers. #GOTLittleFinger
All-in-all over 1.4 million people have participated in the Game of Thrones 2016 election and surprisingly it’s a 3-way tie so far.
