The Tea Party movement is an American political movement known for its conservative positions and is affiliated with the Republican Party. The Tea Party demands for a reduction in the U.S. national debt and federal budget deficit.
Additionally, they oppose universal healthcare, especially President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act, or Obamacare.

The Tea Party began around 2007 and the name is inspired from the Boston Tea Party. Ron Paul is considered to be the “intellectual godfather” of the Tea Party and Sarah Palin has been an outspoken voice for the party as well.
