2004 Presidential Democratic Candidate Howard Dean is known on the Left to have given birth to campaigning on the web, according to Politico. After his campaign lost in the Democratic Primary, his digital saavy supporters took to blogging and online organizing, including DailyKos, Netroots Nation, MoveOn.org and countless other. These digital activists paved the way for Barack Obama’s historic digital campaign in 2008.
Dean’s campaign pioneered new ways to engage voters and raise campaign funds. Howard Dean is still the leader within the Democratic Party and a godfather, so to speak, of the blog movement and online political fundraising.
