Kevin McCarty is the incumbent Democratic candidate for the 7th Assembly District in California, which covers Sacramento, West Sacramento and parts of unincorporated Sacramento. McCarty grew up in Sacramento, attending American River College, CSU Long Beach (where he earned his B.A. in Political Science), and finally CSU Sacramento where he earned his Masters in Public Policy and Administration.
Prior to getting involved in government, McCarty worked for Early Edge California, a non-profit focusing on early education programs. He then served as a policy director to the former Lieutenant Governor and as an assembly budget committee consultant to a former California State Assembly member. In 2004, he was elected to Sacramento City Council as the District 6 representative, where he championed safe housing, gun control and afterschool programs.
McCarty was first elected to California State Assembly in 2014, where he is now the Chair of the Assembly Budget Subcommittee on Education Finance due to his extensive work in supporting early education, K-12 and higher education. McCarty now lives in Elmhurst in Sacramento with his wife Leticia and their twin daughters, Victoria and Barbara.
