Republican James Gallagher has served as the Assemblyman for District 3 since 2014. He was selected as Deputy Republican Floor Leader and is the current Chief Republican Whip. His main priorities are water and flood control, decreasing taxes, turning education policy over to local governments and healthcare and tort reform. He opposes the Governor’s early release plan for nonviolent offenders.
Assemblyman Gallagher got his bachelor’s degree in Art at UC Berkeley, where he was Editor-in-Chief of the campus conservative news magazine and was elected to the student senate. After graduating he participated in the Assembly Fellowship Program in Sacramento before going on to law school at UC Davis. He has lived in the northernmost region of California his whole life and currently farms the same land that his ancestor purchased in the late 1800s. He married his high school sweetheart, Janna, and they have three kids.
