Before getting into politics, State Senator William W. Monning was a professor at the Monterey College of Law, and the president & co-founder of an organization dedicated to teaching, training and advocacy in nonviolent conflict resolution. He served as a Senior Fulbright specialist and was a recipient of the prize himself. He also served as Executive Director of the Nobel Peace Prize winning organization, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War.
In the Senate, Monning serves as the Senate Majority Leader and Chair of the Senate Committee on Legislative Ethics. Prior to being a Senator, Monning represented the 27th Assembly District, where he began his efforts championing reducing childhood obesity, protecting our natural environment and reforming health care.
